Having your license as a teen driver means you have certain freedoms, but more responsibilities.

Most teenagers get their license when they turn 16, meaning they’re most likely sophomores in high school. As a sophomore, you may think you already know everything there is to know about the world. The word sophomore comes from the Greek language: sophos meaning wise, and moros meaning foolish; dull.  When it comes to driving, don’t be a wise fool! Here are some useful tips to help you be on your way to becoming as wise as Gandalf the Grey. (And, no, there is no such thing as being too cool for “Lord of the Rings”.)

Here are some facts about teen drivers, and how to reduce the risks of these events.

  • Teen Passenger Fatalities: You are way more likely to get into an accident if you are driving with one of your friends; that not only puts your life in danger, but theirs as well.
  • Seat Belts: Wearing a seat belt significantly reduces the risk of being hurt or killed in a crash. Make a rule: everyone buckle up! (Besides, if your friends aren’t buckled up, and you get pulled over—it’s YOU that has to pay the ticket.)
  • Night Driving: Unless you absolutely have to drive at night, you really shouldn’t drive. Your chances of being in a crash are severely increased due to your inexperience. That experience will come in due time!

Being a teen driver is hard enough, being prepared will help relieve some of the stress that comes associated with driving.  For all of your auto insurance needs to keep you protected on U.S. roads contact Hoffman Brown Company in Sherman Oaks, California.
