“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, and to have it make some difference – that you have lived and lived well.” (Ralph Waldo Emerson)
On 11/3/16 some of HBC’s Team had the privilege of volunteering at MEND (Meet Each Need with Dignity), located in Pacoima, CA.
The HBC volunteers wrote about their experience: For those of us with sedentary jobs, it was quite physically demanding, however, also very rewarding.
We packed cartons of food, and boy did we pack. A total of 8 pallets, containing 288 boxes were packed by the HBC crew!
According to our MEND volunteer supervisor, we set a new record!! He stated he normally only gets 4 pallets from a group. I’m sure we all slept very well last night!!
If you ever get the opportunity, I highly recommend you volunteer at this extremely important charity.
MEND is a non-for-profit organization that provides not only food, but clothing, dental care, eye care, medical and job counseling. They strive to meet the needs of their “clients” who are families whose income is below the poverty level, and also the homeless.
