Protect Your Home From Coronavirus

There’s no doubt that the coronavirus outbreak has affected us all. From our work lives to our weekly grocery shops, people are advised to take more precautions than normal. To help protect yourself and your loved ones, here are a few tips on how to coronavirus-proof your home.

Disinfect your belongings

  • Disinfect everything you touch – doorknobs, light switches, keys, phone, keyboards, remotes, and other high-touch surfaces.
  • Use EPA-approved disinfectants and leave surfaces wet for 3 to 5 minutes before wiping down.

Prepare for outings

  • Designate one person to be your errand-runner to limit your outside exposures.
  • Set up a disinfection station so that you can disinfect packaged food that comes into the house.

Maintain cleanliness

  • Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Disinfect take out boxes and packaged foods before putting them away.
  • Thoroughly wash produce before putting it in your kitchen.

Laundry

  • Wash clothes, towels, and linens regularly on the warmest setting.
  • Disinfect your laundry hamper, too, or place a removable liner inside of it.
  • Avoid shaking dirty laundry to avoid dispersing the virus in the air.

If someone in your household gets sick

  • First, consult your doctor.
  • Isolate the person to a room and ask them to use a separate restroom.
  • Disinfect frequently touched surfaces every day.
  • Avoid sharing items with the infected person.
  • Continue to wash your hands frequently.

Remember to stay safe during this uncertain time. A little prevention and preparation can go a long way in keeping yourself, loved ones, community, and others safe.
