To protect your business and reputation, falls and slips should always be prevented to the best of your ability.

Businesses are almost always on the losing end of the legal battle when it comes to falls and slips, so, as a business owner, doing everything in your power to prevent such a catastrophe is in your best interest. It’s important to train your employees to know what to do in the event of an obstacle that poses a potential threat to your customers. This keeps the chances of a fall or slip to a minimum. Seasons may also have an effect on where your prime slip zones will be, so it’s key to know what to do when the seasons act against you.

Training

Employee involvement in your company’s safety is of the utmost importance. A safety program can only be successful if everyone receives the sufficient knowledge and training to fully be aware of the situation that presents itself. All employees should receive training during orientation for different slip/fall scenarios. Consider these workplace rules:

  • Slip, trip, and fall hazard awareness training must be attended by all who work in the organization.
  • Workplace inspections training must be attended by the employees whose job is to inspect the workplace for any obstructions or spills that may pose threats.
  • Accident response and analysis training must be completed by the supervisors to make sure the appropriate actions are taken.

Seasons

Seasons offer changes to our climate, and each season poses its own threat. Even in Southern California, rain brings risks. Consider:

  • Anti-Slip Mats. Rain makes shoe soles wet and prime for slipping upon entering your business. These mats should absorb the liquid that’s on the sole to lower the risk of slipping.

Preventing falls is an important aspect of keeping your business alive and well. A proper business insurance will give you enough liability coverage should the worst happen on your grounds.
