- GPS & Wireless Devices
Drivers will no longer be able to use handheld GPS devices. The phone or device must be mounted on the vehicle’s windshield, or affixed to a dashboard as to not hinder the driver’s view of the road.
Furthermore, a driver can only activate or deactivate his or her phone if it requires one single tap or swipe.
- Lane Splitting
California became the first state to allow lane splitting back in August of 2016. Technically, it has remained in the gray area of legality, but as of January 1, 2017, this allows all two-wheeled vehicles to drive between rows of stopped or slow traffic.
- Child Safety Seats
All children under two years of age must sit in an appropriate rear-facing child passenger seat unless that small individual weighs more than 40 pounds, or is taller than 40 inches. Children under the age of eight must be in an appropriate booster seat in order for the seat belt to fully protect them.
