A Red Flag Day is when weather conditions indicate the potential for a fast-moving brush fire is extremely high. The conditions are defined as wind speeds 25 mph or more and humidity 15% or less.
Please take a moment to run through a quick safety check list:
1. KEEP INFORMED:
Make sure to sign up for emergency alerts at this link
Keep a small radio, just in case power and Internet is down
2. HELP KEEP OUR NEIGHBORHOOD SAFE:
For downed Trees blocking roads/evacuation routes: Call 311 or (213) 473-3231
For downed Electrical poles or wires: 1-800-DIAL-DWP and email [email protected]
3. WHAT TO PACK SO YOU CAN EVACUATE QUICKLY:
Have your “Go Bag” ready in the event there is an evacuation – link to what to pack here
5. WHERE TO GO IF ABRUPTLY EVACUATED:
The nearest City emergency shelter might not be the Westwood Rec Center, please confirm Red Cross shelters at this link and stay tuned to the City emergency update system. Some residents congregated in ‘unofficial’ venues like the Vicente Foods parking lot, where Chabad brought food and water to displaced residents during the Getty Fire, however, wherever you go, please follow Covid guidelines 🙂
Finally – Remember the Elderly
14 Elderly Residents had to be evacuated by firefighters during the Getty Fire.
If its possible to observe Covid precautions, please Check on elderly neighbors and
suggest a ‘go plan’ in the event of fire.
Thank you to the Brentwood City Counsel for providing us with this information!
